Season ends in sectionals
Liberty High couldn't keep up with Rockhurst. The Blue Jays scored on a 75-yard run from running back Garrett White with 11:42 left in the first half to take a 14-7 lead - and were never heard from again. The Hawklets (9-2) scored three touchdowns before halftime and another in the third quarter for a 35-14 Class 6 sectional win Friday, Nov. 6 at Rockhurst High School. Liberty forced turnovers on consective possessions in the first quarter and tied the game at 7-7 on White's 3-yard run. White had 127 yards on 11 carries in the game. After the Blue Jays held Rockhurst on fourth-and-2 on its 26, White burst up the middle on the first play and was untouched for the long score. Rockhurst quarterback Frank Arbanas scored on a 10-yard run to tie it and the Hawklets took the lead on running back Noah Pearl's 9-yard run with 3:51 to go in the second quarter. The Hawklets delivered the crushing blow when they scored on a 27-yard pass from Arbanas to Cooper Beckett on a fourth-and-13 play with three seconds remaining before halftime. Liberty ends the season 8-3.
