Gov. Jay Nixon has ordered that the U.S. and Missouri flags be flown at half-staff on all state buildings in Clay County through Friday, July 30, to honor the bravery and sacrifice of Staff Sgt. Shaun M. Mittler.
Mittler, 32, originally of Gladstone, died on July 10 while serving in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Konar, Afghanistan. He was assigned to A Company, 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Ky.
