Jewell sweeps Baker in HAAC play

It appears the Heart of America Athletic Conference baseball race will come down to the wire.

With less than two weeks to go before the end of the regular season, William Jewell and Lindenwood are tied in the loss column for first place. The Lions (21-7) have played two more games than the Cardinals (19-7).

The Cardinals swept Baker on Friday, April 10, and Saturday, April 11, after dropping a pair of games to Lindenwood on April 8.

Jewell overcame a 6-3 lead to beat the Wildcats 10-6 in the first game Saturday. Freddie Adamson had three runs batted in. Nick Basham, Joe Summers and Nick Steponovich each had two hits.

Jacob Kraft threw 5 1/3 innings of scoreless relief to pick up the win for the Cardinals.

Jewell beat Baker 5-3 in the nightcap. Blake Burks hit a home run for the Cardinals and had three runs batted in.

Joe Malin threw a complete-game, four-hitter for a 4-0 victory in the first game Friday in Baldwin City, Kan. And Jewell scored a run in the top of the seventh in a 3-2 victory in the second game. Luke Kalb went the distance, allowing only four hits and striking out four.

The Cardinals, 31-10 overall, play at MidAmerica Nazarene in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Friday, April 17. Then, they play host to the Pioneers in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 18.
